It took me a while to find this little gem, but now I have I can't keep away! While it doesn't offer the stellar diversity in the menu of some places, what they do, they do well. The lasagne, in particular, is the best I've ever had, meaty and al dente, rather than sloppy and overloaded with tomato puree, and while this might not be as authentically italian, I prefer it that way. The ambience is, well, eclectic... The name Bauhaus conjures up an image of angular teutonic architecture and cold chrome furniture and it's nothing like that at all! It's cozy and friendly and inside the sounds of reggae and dub mix comfortably with Buddhist iconography and a sense of hospitality that is peculiarly Welsh...
For such a small town Bridgend seems to have an unusual number of coffee shops per square mile and I have sampled most of them, but this one's my favourite. -

Bauhaus Coffee Shop is a quirky little coffee shop in Bridgend town centre. A nice layout and decor, the tables aren't too squashed together even though there isn't much space. There are tables outside both doors, so you can sit outside in the summer (or in the winter if you need to smoke!)
The service is friendly and pretty quick. Prices are reasonable, and the menu is standard coffee shop fare - sandwhiches, panninnis etc.
There are some lovely homemade soups on at the moment, which make a nice change for a winter lunchtime. They also have pies and other specials on at the mo.
After trying most of the bridgend coffee shops during a lunchbreak Bauhaus ranks as one of the best in Bridgend.
It's nice that independent coffee shops are still going strong in Bridgend - you definately get more friendly service here than in a typical chain coffee place.
